The elements to illuminate a stage in any type of event always have a great importance, since it is the base element that will allow us to maintain a correct visualization of the event, in addition to being able to create different environments or contrasts in favor of the production. There are different elements that can be placed on the stage to facilitate its complete illumination and to achieve a specific light in each area of the stage in order to capture the attention in specific points.
The lighting of any event can be functional or decorative. While functional lighting seeks to make the attendees see each other and the space, decorative lighting allows to radically transform a space with the objective of making an impact and achieving a great atmosphere, giving depth and dimension to the space
Conventional lighting equipment and its accessories to illuminate a stage
Conventional lighting equipment, such as retails or fresnels, are one of the main elements to illuminate a stage and every event must have several spotlights to illuminate the stage in a correct way. Depending on the magnitude of the event, and the size of the stage, more or less lighting will be required, the most common in conventional stage lighting, starting from a basic idea of event, would be to organize the front stage and back stage lighting in side totems of more than 2m high, depending on the height and location of the main stage, or place the equipment in truss goals to cover the width and height required for each situation.
When you want to enhance the presence of a person in front of the camera, a good technique is to place the stage lighting to the rear. This type of lighting prevents the people on top of the stage from appearing flat due to the light coming only from the rear.
Laser systems, strobe lights, smoke machines, confetti and pyrotechnics are also recommended to reinforce the lighting of a stage if the stage of an event is outdoors.
Moving heads
Moving heads have become a great attraction in all kinds of corporate events or product presentations, due to their ability to create and innovate with different effects, movement programming, colours and gobos to give shape and colour to all the lighting of your event. They offer a dynamic lighting that achieves a spectacular effect in events and stages, becoming another of the elements to illuminate a stage in a more prominent way. Its most differentiating element with respect to other spotlights is the ability to move the head in 360 degrees, and thanks to its dynamism and capacity they offer a wide variety of scenes with the possibility of creating versatile illuminations even with textures and shapes. Customized logos can also be requested, always with some time and margin for reaction, to convert them into gobos and create unique effects for different uses in corporate events.
Lighting control systems and mixing consoles, another essential element to illuminate a stage
Whenever possible, event and stage lighting should be dynamic. It needs a certain dynamism and the spotlights should change with respect to a lighting program that enriches the lighting and creates an ideal and attractive scene. For any show to have a correct and dynamic lighting, it is necessary to have a suitable mixing console for each event, and depending on the needs of the event, since the capacities and prices of the equipment differ greatly depending on the needs to be covered. There are also different programming and control software for the different brands and lighting equipment that can facilitate the programming and control tasks during rehearsals and events.
LED backlighting
LED backlighting is another of the main elements to illuminate a stage and, in recent years, has gained strength in stages, as it provides a front lighting inspired by previous years and get to create a retro atmosphere with a dazzling light. The current backlighting is an improved version of the one that was presented in shows a few years ago, with the technologies that we have today.
LED backlighting is specially designed for the front part of the stage and aims to attract attention and create the right atmosphere in the front part of the stage where the whole audience is located. Screens with LED backlighting can be manufactured in two ways: perimeter illumination and local dimming. Perimetral lights have LEDs along the edges of the screen that illuminate from the outside in and are thinner, while local dimming displays use a matrix of LEDs behind the screen for optimal contrast capability and better image quality.
Strobe effect, a very appropriate option to achieve the „wow“ effect and a great highlight, among the elements to illuminate a stage
The way to dazzle the audience in front of a stage in a particular event is by using specialized spotlights for this task: strobes. These lights have become one of the essential elements to illuminate a stage and are of a high intensity to achieve a dazzling effect in front of the audience. They can be used in two different ways. The first use, and generally the most used, is to direct the strobe lights towards the audience to achieve that „wow“ effect. In addition, it can be used for a second purpose, directing the spotlights towards the inner part of the stage to be part of the rest of the spotlights and lighting, showing the stroboscopic effect on what is seen on the stage.
The different elements to illuminate a stage are very diverse in the market, and choosing the most suitable option for each stage and every need of the event can become a somewhat complicated task. However, knowing the different options that are presented in the market will give us the necessary tools to achieve illuminations and atmospheres that adapt to the scene sought on the stage.
